Soul Survivor

In our culture, if you show someone any type love and appreciation before they’re laying in the ground, you’re usualy labeled a ‘dickrider.’ Right?

Well, whatever.

It just hit me a few minutes ago how much I’ve been influenced by Q-Tip over the years. I’ve been playing a ton of Tribe over the last week or so. I’m probably one of the only people that really still enjoys the Amplified album. I’ve come to the realization that I’m huge Q-Tip fan.

Dammit, I memorized (and still know) all the moves he did in the ‘Find A Way’ video.

My Mother likes him! And she’s never wrong about stuff like that.

Here’s a guy who has one of the most recognizable voices in the history of hiphop. He’s been around for years. Endured some of the best and worst of times. He helped represent the Native Tongue movement. Hell, he even had a cameo in Fade To Black!

Q-Tip is like that older cousin you had from the East Coast that would come visit during holidays. You know, the one that always had the new music and all the fly clothes. And you would always hope he brought you back some fly shit.

I was super glad to meet him out in AZ. I almost froze up.

That’s the Abstract!

‘If knowledge is the key, well just show me the lock…’

‘It’s got to do with lots of lovin’ and it ain’t nothin’ nice…’

That’s Q-Tip!

Managed to shake off my jitters to rap with him long enough so that he’d sign my copy of The Renaissance. I know, right?

Anyway, I’m beyond happy that he’s still around. Still innovating. Spinning at the Ace Hotel every Friday. Showing Kanye how to do this.

Peace to the Abstract!
